Camp Gabriels is a minimum security state prison, located in northern New York, USA. This prison is located in the village of Gabriels in the Town of Brighton in Franklin County. The prison is inside the Adirondack Park.

The prison is a conversion of a former tuberculosis sanatorium, which was named after Bishop Henry Gabriels when it was opened in 1897. The sanatorium was later used as part of nearby Paul Smith's College before is was sold to be used as a prison, beginning in 1982.

Most of the prisoners work on forestry-related projects and receive instruction from conservation officers.

The Prison is one of Four that will close in January 2009.

Köttbullar förekommer i olika former i många länder, men maträtten "svenska köttbullar" är svensk. Utanför Sverige saluförs rätten på Ikeavaruhusen som ett prov på typisk svensk husmanskost.

How one makes meatballs depends as much on one's cultural background as on individual taste. There are even "meatless" meatballs to satisfy vegetarian palates.

From the Balkans to India, there is a large variety of meatballs in the kofta family.

The effect was named by Alessandro Volta after his contemporary, the scientist Luigi Galvani, who investigated the effect of electricity on dissected animals in the 1780s and 1790s. Galvani himself referred to the phenomenon as animal electricity, believing that he had discovered a distinct form of electricity. Volta, on the other hand, claimed that the reputed animal electricity was due to an interaction between the metals used to mount and dissect the frog's leg, and in 1800, before the Royal Society in London, announced the Voltaic Cell or pile, essentially the battery.

The modern study of galvanic effects in biology is called electrophysiology, the term galvanism being used only in historical contexts. The term is also used to describe the bringing to life of organisms using electricity, as shown in Mary Shelley's work Frankenstein (which was influenced by galvanism) and people still speak of being 'galvanized into action'.

Many Victorian scientists believed that if the right amount of electricity was charged into the brain, the corpse would come back to life.

Lyoner är en finmald korv av köttfärs, vars ursprung förmodligen är i den franska staden Lyon. Typisk är dess ringform, som i Tyskland är synonymt med "Lyoner" vars båda änder sammanbundits. Korven förknippas i Tyskland i synnerhet med det till Frankrike gränsande Saarland. En slaktare i Lyon lär ha varit först med att färga korvskinnet rött, varför den kom att kallas Lyoner. Vid Falu koppargruva användes linor av tvinnad oxhud för att hissa upp kopparmalmen. Oxarna kom från Småland i stora konvojer och slaktades vid framkomsten till Falun. Köttet saltades sedan, och röktes. Under 1500- och 1600-talet lärde tyskarna, som hade stort inflytande vid gruvan, svenskarna att göra god korv av det rökta oxköttet. På 1870-talet tog Anders Olsson, Melker Olssons far, upp traditionen att röka kött i sitt enkla slakteri. Den rökta korven utvecklades omkring år 1890 till falukorv, som förmodligen är Sveriges mest populära maträtt. Melkers är än idag ensamma om att tillverka falukorv i Falun, där den av tradition skall tillverkas.

Parafili (av grekiska "utanför", "mot" och philia "kärlek", "vänskap") är en benämning på en socialt oaccepterad avvikelse (eller perversion) från den sexuella normen; det involverar en avvikande fantasi eller handling som syftar till att uppnå sexuell stimulering och tillfredsställelse. Det är framför allt en psykologisk och socialpolitisk term, som fastän den alltjämt brukas är ifrågasatt. [1]

Parafili är en övergripande term som används i de internationella psykiatriska klassifikationerna DSM-IV och ICD-10, och därmed ett medicinskt begrepp för en psykisk störning. För att det ska vara en störning krävs att läggningen tagit sig så stora proportioner att det blivit ett psykiskt behov och att den varat i mer än sex månader. Objektet för parafilin kan bytas ut mot ett annat, eller uppträda i kombination, så som är fallet med sadomasochism. Huruvida socialt accepterade eller kulturellt betingade parafilier ska bedömas som en psykisk störning hos den enskilde är omtvistat.

Traditionellt delas parafilierna in i två grupper: sexuell åtrå av objekt vilka de flesta inte anser vara upphetsande, samt ett sexuellt beteende som är avvikande. Dessa symtom behöver inte levas ut för att definieras som en störning, utan det är i hur hög grad människans liv påverkas som är avgörande. Detta kan uppskattas i till exempel hur mycket parafilin kostar ekonomiskt, samt hur det påverkar kontakten med andra människor och partnerrelationer. Parafilier kan uppträda tillsammans med andra psykiska störningar.

Vad som uppfattas som parafili är i vissa fall socialt och kulturellt betingat, och är ibland bestämt av dels vad som uppfattas som norm, dels av vad avvikelser anses bero på. Vad som är ett sexualbrott skiljer sig också åt i olika samhällen, och korresponderar delvis med uppfattningen om vad som är en parafili. Parafilier kan även vara brottsliga enligt andra rubriceringar om de levs ut (brott mot allmän ordning, förargelseväckande beteende, etc). För att vara en brottslig handling i den sekulariserade västvärlden krävs att utlevelsen av parafilin inskränker på någon annan människas rättigheter. Därför uppfattas parafilier som fetischism som mera oförargerliga än till exempel exhibitionism. I religiösa samhällen är det i stället religiösa förbud som avgör, vilket leder till att handlingen bedöms som sådan, i stället för att se den i relation till samhället och andra individer.

Inom den medicinska vetenskapen finns flera konkurrerande förklaringar till hur parafili uppkommer, till exempel klassisk betingning och trauman under barndomen. Störningen är vanligare bland män än kvinnor, varför testosteron ibland antagits vara en orsak.

Parafilier har inget med sexuella läggningar att göra, en pedofil till exempel kan lika gärna vara heterosexuell som homosexuell eller bisexuell. Tidigare har homosexualitet felaktigt ansetts vara en parafili, vilket enligt amerikanska psykologförbundet kan förklaras med samhällets värderingar och brister i forskningen – den äldre forskningen om homosexuella var koncentrerad till personer som gick i terapi och dylikt vilket gav förvanskade resultat. .[3]

BROOKFIELD, Illinois: At the local Brookfield Zoo last Thursday, beloved tiger Ruffles spent his time from approximately 2:50 to 2:55 P.M. planning the vicious murder of two year old Jeremy Smalls, who was being held over the bars at the tiger pit by his mother.

The mother and child attracted the tiger's attention when their loud ruckus caused him to wake from his nap. "I'm sleeping, right?", Ruffles said with disdain, "And I hear this little kid just laughing, really obnoxiously, and his mom's yelling, 'Look at the big kitty! Aww, look at him, isn't he so cute?' I am not a fucking kitty, thank you very much. I am a vicious, merciless killer, not your stupid, impotent housecat."

Mrs. Smalls proceeded to lift Jeremy up to rest on the protective bar that surrounds the tiger pit, still pointing and shouting at Ruffles. "Let's see if we can wake him up," she told Jeremy excitedly. "Here, kitty kitty kitty! Oh, look, Jeremy, he moved! Look at him! He's just like a big version of our cat, isn't he? Oh, yes he is!"

Ruffles commented that he believed that the child may have been some sort of sacrifice in order to curry favor. "Drop him," he reportedly repeated, watching the mother and child intensely. "Just drop him down here. You know you want to, just... let go."

Though Ruffles had never encountered an infant child before, he expressed his thorough belief that he could easily murder and devour the child after he had been dropped into the pit. "I mean, maybe he's got some special skill that's not obvious just by looking at him," said the tiger. "I'm not stupid. In the wild, there's these frogs that have poison inside them. But I'm pretty sure that little kid's got no defenses whatsoever. Besides, after a fall like that, any animal's gonna be severely weakened. And the weakened ones are just more delicious."

While the tiger was disappointed when Jeremy and his mother moved on to go look at some of the "darling little monkeys," Ruffles expects that eventually, his chance will finally come. "These's all these people inanely yelling at me constantly," he said, "clearly, they're not that intelligent. Eventually, one of them will climb in to pet the 'nice, friendly kitty'. That's when I'll get 'em, the loud little bastards." Until that day arrives, Ruffles has announced his plans to sleep, eat, and do his best to ignore the incessant shouts of small, thrilled children who cannot seem to believe that there is a fucking tiger in the zoo.
